COME AND GET A JUMP START ON YOUR COLLEGE EDUCATION

A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM THAT ALLOWS PERSONS TO BECOME BETTER PREPARED FOR THEIR HIGHER EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AT ARKANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY.

Student Support Services here on the campus of Arkansas State University ~ Jonesboro is pleased to announce “Bridging the Gap” Summer Bridge Program. This program will be held August 21-22, 2008 and is designed to introduce incoming or nontraditional students to the resources needed for success in college and to introduce them to Arkansas State University with a personal touch.

To be considered for the Bridge program, a student must meet the following conditions:

·         U.S. citizen or national or meet residence requirements for federal student aid, and

·         have a need for academic support.

In addition, a student must meet at least one of the following criteria:

·         Be a first-generation college student (neither parent has earned a baccalaureate degree), and/or

·         meet income guidelines, and/or

·         be an individual with a documented disability.

The Bridge program is a free program and students who will live on campus in the fall will be able to move in to their assigned room that evening of the 21st. The only costs incurred by students are for miscellaneous expenses (snacks, personal items, etc.).

Once a student is accepted into the Summer Bridge program, he/she remains in the SSS program until graduation. The mission of SSS is to provide participants with academic and support services in a caring environment that seeks to ensure their successful completion of a baccalaureate degree at ASU. SSS services are free and include but are not limited to advising, counseling, tutoring, mentoring, supplemental instruction, workshops, and cultural events.

To be considered for participation in the Summer Bridge program, you must first apply for Student Support Services. Click on “How to Apply” in the menu bar to the left.
